Who's Your One?

Who’s Your One?

When you think of someone far from God, who’s the first person who comes to mind? Is it a neighbor? Coworker? Parent? No matter who it is, God can use you to reach them. Imagine the impact if every Christian had one person they prayed for and shared the gospel with. Who are you committing to pray for?

Who’s your one?

Here’s how it works at MFBC:

• Identify your One – there may be several people you know who are far from God. But who is the one you keep thinking of all the time, always running into, have the desire to pray for and witness to? When you decide who your One is, write their name on a card located in our sanctuary and post that card on our Who’s Your One board in the sanctuary.

• Commit to your One – the card that you put your One’s name on is attached to a prayer card that you take with you. Commit to walking with your One on their journey to Christ, and start with prayer. Even beyond the prayer card, continue to pray that the Lord will give you opportunities to build a relationship with your One, and eventually to share about Jesus with your One.

• Serve your One – find what is meaningful to them and do it, even if it seems they don’t have a need. Ask them how you can pray for them. Leave them a hand written card. Leave them a gift card to a favorite restaurant and write a note why you’re giving it to them. Take some time to learn more about them over a cup of coffee or lunch break. This actually leads to the next step…

• Start the Conversation – when learning more about them, ask specific questions about what spiritual beliefs they were raised with and/or have now. Ask what motivates them to believe the way they do. The purpose here is to show that you have a genuine interest in them, even when it comes to more personal subjects. See whosyourone.com for a practical guide and more.

• Direct the Conversation – as you are learning more about your One, consider something they have shared with you and how that subject sets the environment for introducing Jesus to the conversation. If talking about beliefs, ask if you can share what you believe. If taking about struggles, ask if you can share about how Jesus helps you in your struggles.

• Celebrate Transformation – your job is complete as long as you have been faithful to love people and introduce them to Jesus. They are only transformed by the work of Jesus. Some may never surrender to Jesus’ transformation…keep praying for them and loving on them. But when there is transformation, celebrate with your One. Share with them in your new brotherhood/sisterhood and help guide them in their walk with the Lord, now growing in faith and action together. And go back to that Who’s Your One board in the sanctuary. Share with someone how Jesus saved the One you’ve been praying for and take their card off the board.

• Continue to the next One – start the process over. This time, joining with your previous One by helping them identify their One, and reaching TWO together.
